For women who know they
are pregnant, some would be surprised to see tiny amounts of blood in
their underwear, bed sheet or upon wiping and probably might get
alarmed as well. The process of spotting, which reproductive experts
say is very much the same as bleeding during pregnancy, usually takes
place at any point during a woman’s pregnancy. The spotting is mostly
seen as a slight bleeding and may either be red, brown or pink-colored
blood. Although this occurrence is a cause for worry to many women,
generally there is a quite simple explanation for this phenomenon.
Analyzing Spotting During Pregnancy
According to physicians, when a pregnant woman sees some spotting, her
first thoughts or fears would be that of miscarriage. Gynecologists
stress that a miscarriage would have specific symptoms that are
associated with it and spotting would just be one of them.
Some women do spot during a typical pregnancy, particularly during the
first three months, as a woman’s body generally adjusts to the hormone
levels and this occurrence usually takes place during the time a
woman’s menstruation period is due. There are even occasions when
women don't even realize that they're pregnant, especially since they
bleed right on schedule. Health experts say that the first thing a
woman should do when she notices some spotting, is to call her doctor
as a physician would be more capable of assessing the outcomes and
determine the severity of the concern.
The doctor would then be able to verify whether the color of the blood
is fresh, or whether it’s old. A physician would then perform a
check-up on the woman to determine whether she has a fever, or if she
is experiencing any sort of body pain or would ask her whether the
spotting began after intercourse or if ever she feels any pain with
intercourse.
Other Factors Which Cause Spotting During Pregnancy
Reproductive health experts also note that there could be other
non-pregnancy-related factors for spotting. These would generally
include a possible yeast infection, urinary tract infection, bacterial
vaginosis or hemorrhoids. Doctors also stress that there could be
occasions when the spotting or bleeding could be related to the
pregnancy, but would not be considered life-threatening or serious.
A subchorionic hemorrhage, or a tiny clot that causes bleeding and
then dissolves away harmlessly could be the cause and your doctor
would likely keep a tab on this concern until it disappears or begins
to slowly ease. Some of the pregnancy-related factors for the
occurrence of spotting are unstable hormones and some forms of
cervical infections.
It’s a major concern, however, when spotting occurs in pregnant women,
as the spotting could indicate that a miscarriage would be taking
place. Doctors say that a miscarriage is usually manifested by the
occurrence of bright red bleeding, along with cramping body pain.
Usually, after women undergo an internal exam, they would experience
seeing some form of spotting, and should this happen, it would be best
to first contact their midwife or doctor and inform them of this
incident. There have been occasions when spotting occurs and women
would simply see no underlying cause as to why this happens. Should
spotting occur, women are best advised to refrain from lifting heavy
objects and from doing any strenuous exercising during this period.
